The BCFED is excited to announce we will be holding a virtual event to recognize the 40th anniversary of Injured Workers Day.
This is an important day to highlight our ongoing fight for the restoration of dignity, respect and justice for injured workers.
Last year, the BCFED launched our Injured Workers Deserve Better Campaign with the release of our website featuring stories of injured workers and their families: https://www.workersdeservebetter.ca/wdb.
This virtual event will provide an opportunity for injured workers, family members, worker advocates and our affiliated members to hear about the work we have been doing to urge government and the WCB to restore a worker-centred approach to the workers’ compensation system in BC.
What have we accomplished and what is still to be done?
The following experienced worker advocates and lawyers will be assisting with the injured workers’ event:
- Sarah O’Leary, Lawyer and Worker Advocate
- Kevin Love, Lawyer and Worker Advocate
- Janet Patterson, Retired Lawyer, Adjudicator and Labour Educator
There will be a panel discussion with injured workers and family members, an update on the Injured Workers Deserve Better campaign and a presentation on mental health followed by small group discussions.
The complete agenda will be available at a later date.
